Embarassing I know. Shame on me. God forbid I have a night out for once. I deserve it, I work two jobs, and in attempts to be social/ reject being a square in my circle of friends, I initiated a night out in Victoria. My lovely friend JH and I had dinner at my place( NY Strip medium rare, with some dukkah potatoes, and grilled asparagus with butter and garlic), which was thoughtfully accompanied by none other than a bottle of whiskey. Laughing, music, eating, and drinking snowballed into calling some other friends and organizing an impromptu rendezvous at the Oyster[sorry I’m drawing this review out, but I am enjoying what memories I do have of the night]. The interior was actually quite impressive, and the energy was good( Saturday night). A few of our friends were already there sipping on a magical tincture of fruity booze with bubbly. I ordered a beer( 7 bucks a glass is kind of steep, but it is an oyster bar across from the Empress). Even though dinner was prematurely digested, we shared an order of the crab dip. Our server for the evening was a playful and confident server, with a rough-edge approach that I was digging. She knew a server that I have worked with for years, so she was instantaneously cool. The crab dip was legit, with a generous amount of sweet and flaky crab meat, and I couldn’t work out the spices they put in there, but the concoction was delicious. I think it was around 15 dollars, but it was a good idea for sharing if your appetite isn’t greedy. The menu is small, with an obvious focus on oysters and seafood. I would like to go back for the ambiance, and maybe try out some of the other food..sober. The service was efficient without being needy and in our face, perfect for a casual drink and nibbles.
